MYP: INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Hello Falls Church City Parents,
We are excited for another wonderful school year in FCCPS!
We wanted to reach out to our school community to update them on the progress of our MYP (Middle Years Program) implementation across MEH and GM. The Middle Years Program is designed for students from 6th-10th grade and provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP encourages students to make real world connections with the projects and activities they do in the classroom. It also helps students develop communication skills and intercultural understanding which translates in to becoming a more globally-minded citizen.
Currently in FCCPS, we have the Primary Years Program (K-5) implemented at MD and TJ and the Diploma Program (11-12) at GM. The next step is full implementation of the Middle Years Program at MEH (6th-8) and GM (9th-10th). The adoption of MYP will create the essential bridge between the Primary Years and Diploma Programs.
We would like to invite all parents of K-10 students out to one of our Community Information Sessions to learn about the MYP program and what changes are happening in our classrooms and schools. We will offer multiple small group sessions at MEH and GM in order to provide scheduling flexibility for parents. Each session will be limited to 30 parents to allow opportunities for questions and discussions.

First Day of School: 2014-2015
Welcome new students!
Helpful Tips for Incoming 6th Graders:
- Buy a locker lock and let students practice to ease anxiety
- Talk about organization with your student; discuss ways you stay organized (i.e. planner, blackberry, reminders, calendar etc.)
- Be open to talk about fears and worries with your student; encourage and reassure them. Help them point out who their resources are at school and home (i.e. teachers, counselors, parents, siblings)
- Explore (http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/school/middleschool/) to learn about what to expect in the transition to middle school
- Explore the MEH website (http://www.fccps.org/meh/) to learn about MEH and the school activities we offer
